Reclaiming the Orphaned Ordinance
Baptists correctly prioritize believer’s baptism. Great care is given in most Baptist churches when teaching congregations and individuals on the meaning, symbolism, and importance of baptism. However, there is another ordinance that deserves the same emphasis as baptism but is often relegated to an infrequent observance at the end of a worship service.
The ordinance of the Lord’s supper is often observed with little explanation other than that it is a reminder of Jesus’ death. But the Lord’s supper is much more than just a mnemonic device to help us remember Jesus’ death. The Lord’s Supper is a beautiful gift to the church from Jesus Christ.
For over two thousand years, God’s people have regularly gathered around a table to enjoy a simple meal in obedience to Jesus. The symbolism found at the Lord’s Table is rich and robust. We will seek to get a new appreciation for the Lord’s Supper at the 2019 WARBC Annual Meeting / Conference. We hope you can join us on October 6 & 7 at First Baptist Church, Kiel, WI.
